The word font is derived from the middle French word ‘fonte' meaning something that has been melted. Chalet Fonts was creation of a famous clothing designer Rene Albert Chalet; he used these fonts in his early advertising campaigns. The chalet font is the collection of more than 100 images, these images are bold but very distinguish and easy to interpret. Fonts are basically used for typography which represents any word with or without meaning. Font can be used for both traditional and modern interface, in traditional form fonts were the pieces of metal that were used to write a whole page. Those metal fonts were made of lead, tin and antimony; developed fonts were pressed on the paper for type setting. In 1880s two methods of traditional typing was developed in which hot lead was used, first the monotype technology in which font cast was set piece by piece and linotype technology where whole line fragments were set and it was printed at the same time saving a lot of time and money. Font writing is not just typing or imprinting desired letters on paper but it is much technical and scientific work, there are few major factors that we should take note in addition to the mechanical sense of the font like height, weight, slope, optical size and width. These characteristics of font are important because they define the nature of scripts, each scripts has some manual points which justify their origin. If we take the example of English language it has many categories of font writing like New Times Roman, Ariel and Chalet Font etc. All these fonts depend upon the characteristics which were discussed above. Fonts change their magnitude from time to time and place to place, Chalet Font is a good example to support this theory as Chalet fonts can be seen in wide range of cultures with some basic changes. Few major cities represents the basic types of chalet fonts according to their culture and these fonts are named after them like Chalet Paris, Chalet London, Chalet New York, Chalet Tokyo, the scripts of these chalet fonts also changed with every 10 year gap and in addition time period was hooked with their names. The time gap ranges from 1960, 1970 and1980. Chalet Fonts also have a different category for slanting letters which are not parallel to the axis of the paper these fonts appear in pre-determined Chalet font writings and named as Chalet oblique Paris, Chalet oblique London and Chalet oblique New York. These chalet fonts are used for ranging applications from text to images. |
